MPS in a nutshell
Boating and sailing on Lake Saimaa since 1905
Mikkelin Pursiseura (MPS) – Mikkeli Yacht Club is one of the oldest boating and sailing clubs in Finland, and also the 2nd oldest sports club in city of Mikkeli. Our main boating area is the Saimaa lake system, but some of our members also sail on the Baltic sea, or on the salty oceans.
MPS has roughly 400 members.
One of our main purposes is to promote Boating safety and seamanship. We arrange annual, voluntary boat sefety inspections, and training for boaters and sailors.
MPS has good facilities for our members on three separate islands, in different parts of lake Saimaa. We are also a member of the saimaanpursiseurat.fi – network of more than 10 Lake Saimaa area boating/sailing clubs, which allows MPS members to use the other clubs’ facilities, and vice versa. Our club is also a member of the Saimaa Recreation Area association.
MPS has a Children’s dinghy Sailing School program. The basic course is every year in June. It is a great way to learn the basics of sailing and boating in a safe environment, under guidance of our experienced, trained instructors. After the basic course, it is possible to continue learning sailing at our weekly sailing practice.
MPS also hosts of one races of the Lake Saimaa keelboat GP race series.
